One of our favorite underdogs that we make is our Mostarda – it’s sweet upfront with a nice amount of fruit flavor with nice mellow heat that pairs amazing well with rich meats, grilled sausages, or a myriad of cheeses. It’s made using locally grown and dried fruits, hand-selected mustard seeds, all mixed, cooked and bottled by our preservationist. The mostarda may be a bit intimidating at first, but one bite is really all that is needed to get a taste of this fantastic mustard.

For more inspiration, we’ve included an ideal pairing to it’s fantastic flavor – lamb meatballs.

Lamb Meatballs with Mostarda Di Frutta

Our Mostarda provides a lovely spicy-sweet profile to grassy lamb as if it was made just for this.
1 pound ground lamb
1/4 cup finely chopped white onion
1 tablespoon finely chopped fresh cilantro
1 garlic clove, finely chopped
1 teaspoon ground coriander
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
Jar of Southport Grocery Mostarda di Frutta

Heat the oven to 375°F with a rack in the middle. Combine all ingredients in a large bowl & mix thoroughly. Form into 25 balls (approximately 1 tablespoons) & place on a baking sheet lined with foil. Bake until meatballs are no longer pink in the middle, about 15 minutes. Let rest 5 minutes; serve with mostarda.
